Benbrook Stables, Benbrook Texas
Sweet Levi turns three and his momma said he has an incredible love for horses. After deciding that neither of us had access quickly to horses and a beautiful piece of property, she suggested Benbrook Stables. We were able to rent a horse and a trainer to make sure all went well. Levi couldn’t have been a happier boy. We walked the property with our horse and she was so kind and patient. Levi’s mom told me that he is completely infatuated with horses… and let me tell you – he was in absolute heaven. After we walked the property, we stopped for some family photos and to feed some of the horses that were already out in the pasture. It was a perfect location for some awesome family images.
Levi is three
He is all boy. Full of life. A mind of his own. A force to be reckoned with. Levi was so inquisitive and couldn’t wait to be done with me so he could feed the horses and see all of them. We may or may not have bribed him with grass to keep him focused on the task at hand. Have you ever tried to reason with a three year old and get them to sit still for .5 seconds?? No? Well let me tell you, it’s kinda like asking a the wind to not blow. Three year olds will do what they want – when they want – and how they want. This age is SUPER fun to photograph – because honestly, you just never know what you are going to get from them. Levi kept me on my toes, but he gave me some fantastic images as well. We had so much fun and I’m pretty certain we all slept really well that night.
We are family
While the main focus of the session was for Levi and his birthday pictures, we went ahead and snuck in some family pictures. If you know me, or have followed me for very long – you will know that I don’t do boring, sit still and smile pictures very well. I want my families laughing, moving, loving each other. It’s the emotions that are given when you ask everyone to snuggle in, or the laughter that bursts out of kids when you ask them who can laugh the loudest. THOSE are the moments that should be documented. Those the images that are priceless and will last a lifetime. Sometimes as mommies we want that perfect picture where everyone is acting right and smiling just perfectly… but sometimes – its the moments that happen around that perfect picture that are so much better.
Thank you Charolette & Ashley for trusting me to document that milestone for Levi and for your family. These images tell a beautiful story of your family in this moment, I hope you cherish them forever.
Happy Birthday Levi.

Some times you meet clients thru other friends and clients and if you are lucky enough… they become friends and family. Brandi & Matt have become just that. Brandi brought us up to Oklahoma City last year to photograph some of her clients. She owns Flex-Appeal, a fabulous concept of personal trainers focused on empowering women and giving them the tools needed to live healthier and better lives. In that process, we have become friends and champion each others businesses and provide encouragement as friends.
This year, we did our annual fitness shoot, but we ended the weekend with some family pictures. Before next year, we may need to plan a week long trip to accomplish everything!!
Brandi & Matt are what I would consider a power couple. They are a great balance of each other and their love is stronger because of their story and the chapters in their life.
If you know Matt… you know, he has a great laugh and smile… he just chooses not to show it in pictures very often. I however…. got it! He’s full of jokes and laughter and he absolutely adores Brandi. And really… how could you not. She’s gorgeous. She’s got a heart that is bigger than you can imagine. She sees the best in anyone and works hard to show it to them.
Matt & Brandi have recently built a home in Oklahoma on some of the prettiest land (with a pond) and it couldn’t have been any more perfect for their shoot. It’s always hard to leave when we come up to visit. It’s just amazingly beautiful.
Brandi, thank you for trusting me to be your photographer and document your love for each other.
I am lucky enough to travel for some of our sessions… although – truth be told, not nearly as often as I would like. 2018, that’s a goal… travel for more clients. Oklahoma will always have a piece of my heart and we are so lucky that we are brought back to OKC for some clients at least once a year. This time we added a couple of special family sessions on to the end of the day.
Dawn and Big Daddy. He has a name… but we all call him Big Daddy 🙂 Dawn was so excited to have pictures done. She hasn’t ever had pictures before and she knew the importance of them. I think her daughter Brandi may or may not have pushed a little to get them to go ahead and book a session. I’m SO very glad she did. Dawn came over at the end of the day and brought in her options for clothes. She was a little nervous I could tell… but she did a great job hiding it. We chose the outfit that would be best for where we were shooting and I promptly led her over to get started on hair and makeup. She sat down and I could hear her and Lori talking 90 miles an hour. I checked on her a few times, but left Lori to work her magic. Big Daddy waited patiently outside while his love got pampered.
One important thing to know about Big Daddy… he’s the strong silent type – always in overalls. He’s a good ol’ Oklahoma Boy. But my goodness he can clean up when he wants to. He changed into the clothes for the session and I smiled from ear to ear. You see… I’ve NEVER seen Big Daddy in anything other than overalls.
We got started and I gave my usual spiel about how the session would go. The weather was absolutely ridiculously perfect. It was late July for goodness sake and I bet the temperature was in the mid 80s. I couldn’t have been happier as we walked around the property heading to our first little destination.
It was important to me to get some images I knew they would love. Not only had they never had pictures done before…I had a feeling I would be pushing my luck if I thought they would do this very often. Well, I’m pretty stinkin happy to say that they did a fabulous job and I couldn’t be happier with the images we created. I truly hope they cherish this for a lifetime.
All my love Dawn & Big Daddy – thank you for trusting me to be your photographer.
If you have listened to me talk about photography, you will know I am a big advocate for family pictures. I believe you should do family pictures as often as possible. We change so much year to year… our lives evolve and our worlds constantly change. Your pictures… they tell your stories. Not everyone sees the value in having family pictures done, not everyone takes the time to carve out a couple of hours to pull it together to have them done. However, I’ve never had a client do a family session and say “I wish we hadn’t done family pictures”. Never. Ever.
Abbye and I have been talking about doing her family pictures for over a year. The last time that Abbe and her parents had family pictures done was when she was a little girl… for the church directory. I’m certain I cried a little when she told me this. Then I giggled relentlessly when she showed me the picture. I’ll hold on to that for blackmail at a later date. This past weekend we traveled down to Waxahachie, TX to photograph Abbye and her parents. I won’t go into the back story here, but I will say, these pictures are priceless and I think they will be cherished for many many years. I had the privilege to photograph this sweet family of three and give them updated photographs. (seriously, think back to your church directory pictures… go ahead, i’ll wait for you to conjure up that picture).
OK… carrying on. The session was short and sweet, because let’s be real… Texas heat is no joke, even at 9am. However, in a short time frame I was blessed to capture their laughter, their love, and hear a little of her parents story. They have beautiful images to last forever… and I have beautiful stories to inspire me to a lifetime of love.
Abbye’s parents met on a blind date, almost 44 years ago. On the 2nd date, she asked him to marry her. 10 days later… they were married. Nothing fancy, no big to-do. No engagement pictures, maybe not even any actual wedding photos, no big party.
Today… almost 44 years later, they still look at each other like they just met. The love they share and exude is truly breathtaking. I could watch them talk and laugh all day long. He watches over her as her protector and her champion and you can see just how much he adores her each time his eyes find her. She kisses him like they are still teenagers and you can see how safe she feels in his arms.
Thank you Abbye for allowing me to photograph your family. This is exactly my WHY for what I do. I have been able to document 44 years of love between two people, document their love for the beautiful daughter, and document laughter that will triumph over anything life throws their way.
All my love
Family Photography Sessions are always refreshing to me. I typically don’t shoot a lot of them during the year, a lot of families wait until the Fall. However, over the last year I’ve been pulled to document families in a very different way. A normal family session is a lot sit there and smile, Mom is panicking because the kids aren’t being perfect. Someone got a grass stain running from the car to me. Dad isn’t too happy to be there… and the kids, well, the kids just want whatever bribe was offered to them on the car ride to where we are meeting. Let me give you a different perspective on family pictures. Allow me to document your family, like you’ve never had done before.
If you have followed along with me for very long, you know that I strive to give you more than just “sit and smile” pictures. I want to capture the laughter (and yes even the tears). I want to document the missing teeth. I want to show you how beautiful your family is in it’s imperfect state. Let’s be real.. those family photos where everyone is standing just perfect and smiling perfect… that is NOT who your family is. If it is… I admire you and would love to know how you do it. For the rest of us… our lives are chaotic, frantic, stressful… but at the end of the day – it’s the little snuggles, the love you feel as your little ones crawl into your lap… these are the things that are important and have meaning. These are the things I want to remember years down the road.
So, let me introduce you to Life Inspired Sessions. We will talk in depth before your session about what makes your family awesome. We will dig into what your kids like at this exact moment in time. We will pick the perfect location, and plan fun activities and things to do together. We will customize this session JUST FOR YOUR FAMILY.
Let me tell your story with your very own Life Inspired Session.

There are some sessions that I just squeal with happiness when I leave. You might remember this beautiful little family from her maternity session last year…. let me introduce you to Duke. Seriously… he is THE cutest little boy! He was completely mesmerized by the camera and I fell madly in love with him. I’m pretty sure I could photograph them all day!
I mean seriously…. I don’t think it’s even possible to be any cuter.
Thank you so very much for choosing me to be your family photographer. I absolutely adore you!
